10 Most Beautiful Churches in the Philippines

Being the only Catholic nation in Southeast Asia, the Philippines is home to hundreds of churches spread all over the archipelago. For more than four hundred years, the Spaniards built churches not only to further the spread of Christian subjugation in the country but also to cement their conquest of the country. Through various religious orders (Augustinians, Jesuits, Dominicans, Recollects, Franciscans, Carmelites, etc.), chapels, cathedrals, and churches were erected from late 1500s up to the late 1900s. Some are made of bricks while some are made of granite, coral stones and even volcanic rocks. However, wars, earthquakes, typhoons, and fires destroyed most of these grand churches. Luckily, some of these grand and majestic churches are still intact for us to visit someday. Here are ten of the most beautiful churches found in the Philippines:

1. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish
Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan

This is where the Malolos Congress was held in 1898.
