Suharto was Indonesia’s second president. He held the office from 1967 until he resigned in 1998. Suharto joined the Indonesian army and was promoted to the rank of Major General. After becoming president, he was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s.
During Suharto’s presidency, Indonesia progressed significantly in terms of its economy and industrialization. Attempts to try Suharto on charges of corruption following his presidency were unpopular and unsuccessful, due primarily to his failing health.
There are many guesses about how much wealth Suharto’s children inherited from their father. Interestingly, Suharto lived in a modest one-story home.
